
TV and Film Continuity
This five day course is
an intensive five day residential course covering all aspects of continuity when
location shooting. Lectures are illustrated with filmed examples and there
are two days of practical exercises, giving participants the opportunity of
putting theory into practice on both drama and factual programmes.
It is
designed for
production secretaries, production assistants, production co-ordinators, script
supervisors and anyone interested in single camera shooting on film or videotape.
Whether
working on unscripted documentary-style programmes or fully-scripted feature
films, if the production is shot primarily single-camera on film or videotape
then there is a need for someone to fulfil the role of continuity on location.
This course is
designed to give the trainees both a thorough understanding of the role of shot
listing and continuity on location to enable them to take part in the creative
process while shooting is taking place, and to provide the necessary information
in terms of continuity sheets/shots lists and tramline scripts in order to
facilitate the next stage of production.

What is continuity?
Observation
Knowing shot size
Shot descriptions
Conventions of single camera shooting
Setting up for a single-camera shoot
Layout of scripts
Script breakdowns
On location - scripted and unscripted productions
Filling in continuity report sheets
Shot listing and timecode logging
Timing
What to look for in each shot and how to write it down
The relationship between action and dialogue
Tramline or coverage notes
Information for the camera department
Information for the editor
Film and videotape editing
All participants will receive a copy of The Continuity Supervisor.
The course commences with dinner on Sunday evening and finishes at lunch-time on Friday.
